The Chairman of Kenema District Council Mohamed Amadu ‘A’ Level Sesay has called on local and International partners to give more support to a nongovernmental humanitarian organization Welthungerhilfe (WHH) Sierra Leone. He said WHH is one of the leading NGOs operating in the Kenema district, adding WHH is a household name not only in the Kenema district but the entire nation due to its past and present activities toward national development.
He made this request during the official closing meeting of stakeholders of a project titled COVID-19 Fair Trade Emergency Initiative SLE 1097 implemented in partnership with MOAWOMA in four chiefdoms and ADPA in three chiefdoms in Kenema district funded by GIZ.
He said he has been part of the inception meeting of the project and now the closing meeting, adding as a chairman of the district he is fully knowledgeable about the project implementation. He said on behalf of his people in the Kenema district, the nation, and the government, he thanked WHH and partners for their support of the nation. He said the activities of WHH are an indelible ink in the minds of Sierra Leoneans.
The District Agriculture Officer Kenema Ganah Conteh called on the farmers to continue making use of the knowledge gained from the project. He assured all that as a Ministry they will continue monitoring the project in maintaining sustainability.
Addressing his audience, Santiqie Kamanda Kanu head of project COVID-19 Emergency Initiative SLA 1097 also doubles as the Deputy County Director of WHH Sierra Leone. He said the closure meeting with stakeholders and Line ministries, is to give them feedback about the project’s implications.
He went on that WHH received funds from GIZ for the implementation of the project in the Kenema, Kailahun, and Kono districts in the Eastern Region of Sierra Leone. He said the project was designed for six months with the grant of 1.4 million EUROs started in December 2020 but due to certain challenges, it was extended to eleven months. At the beginning of the project, they held an inception stakeholders engagement to inform all about the project and its activities and the roles and responsibilities of partners. Again at the end of the project, the stakeholders and Line Ministries are together again to get feedback on the project COVID-19 Emergency Initiative SLE 1097.
He said the project was designed to help support the farmers so that their cocoa work will not be greatly disturbed to zero during the COVID-19 era. He said everything has been put in place to ensure the sustainability of the project in the three districts.
