One of the leading metal groups in the country, Leone Rock Metal Group, in collaboration with the China Medical Team has donated dozens of cartoons worth of medical items to the Raining Season Orphanage home in respect of the world orphans day commemorated every year on the 14th day of November.

With the theme “helping orphans grow up healthily and happily,” the director of Public Relations and Media for the Leone Rock Metal Group, Jacqueline Hong, intimated that orphans are the most vulnerable people in the world, but said if they get the needed support they can grow to a bigger tree in society.

Talking to the orphans, Madam Hong gave the young children hope as she said they are full of potentials and can be the people they want in society with the needed support. She continued that they are not only celebrating all the other days without capturing the day of the orphans who should not be left out. She thanked the Raining Season Orphanage home management for putting smiles on the faces of the children, as she said they have a bigger family in which they live happily. Madam Hong said this on Monday 14th November 2022, at the Raining Season Orphanage home, Spur Road, Freetown.

Giving his impressions about such a good gesture on the sides of the Leone Rock Metal Group and the China Medical Team, the National Coordinator for the Orphans Empowerment Society in Sierra Leone, ambassador Alie Conteh, stated that before thinking of doing any other thing for the children, he said the health of the children should be prioritized first, which he said very key in the lives of the children. This he said most of the children in the Orphanage homes lack the proper medical attention needed. On such a footing, he said the need for the medical outreach is on course, which does not only focus on giving medicine, but said also medical check up to know the health status of the children.

With such a laudable humanitarian gesture, ambassador Alie Conteh promised to engage the donors for an extension to the other Orphanage homes across the country, especially those in hard to reach communities. He emphasized that such is the kind of support they are looking out for. Having said that, he said he is craving for the government of Sierra Leone to include Orphans as free health care beneficiaries. He added that it is a laudable venture to see experts do such a marvelous thing. However, he said similar activities have been going on with local medical team but said being more fascinating seeing experts from the outside world following suit.

Talking on the capacity of Orphanage homes they have been working with, he confirmed that over 50 of them being beneficiaries not only in medical terms, but said also giving out food items, learning materials and said even scholarships. Evaluating between the challenges and the gains made thus far in fighting such a dream, he assured that the success stories have been ontop of situation so far. Despite that, he said they are challenged in terms of logistics, especially conceptualising those in the hard to reach areas and that they have children whose cases are extreme and need special attention. He ended by calling on institutions both public and private to work with them to put smiles on the faces of the children to ensure for their better life; and therefore thanked and appreciated the donors for their kind gesture.

Talking on behalf of the Raining Season Orphanage home, the Social Worker, Mohamed Kargbo, expressing his impressions about the gesture, he said very much excited about the donation. He added that as they have received the donation, they are going to use it judiciously having in the the cost implications. He stated that the home has a medical unit, expressed that it is an added advantage. Giving the donation on the world orphans day, he said it is so special for the children as they should not be left out but to give them the encouragement and make them feel belong in society. He explained that the home has ninety nine (99) beneficiaries and that three of that number is not resident at the Orphanage.

As a way to ensure the country has a healthy population by providing medical services to the children, the China Medical Team lead, professor Joeshi Xizhou said, “we will do our best to help you.” He said he wants to see smiling on the faces of children and that they are happy to provide with such a support to the children.

Giving the vote of thanks, one of the beneficiary children at the Raining Season Orphanage home, Josephine John, extended her thanks appreciations to the donors for such a help; for they have made them feel blessed and belong in society. She said it takes a good heart to do such a wonderful thing. Expressing how kind hearted they are, she said there are people with money but do not help at all. On that note, she said appreciated their kindness and looking forward to more of such support.
