The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) wishes to inform the general public it has received an order from the High Court of Sierra Leone for the sale of property situated at 4A Jones Street, Kissy, Freetown, belonging to MOHAMED SHEKU TURAY.
On the 22nd of July, 2021, MOHAMED SHEKU TURAY, a former banker at the Rokel Commercial Bank, and of No. 2 Alcock Street, Off Macauley Street, Freetown, was sentenced by the HONOURABLE JUSTICE SIMEON ALLIEU to pay a fine of ONE HUNDRED MILLION (OLD) LEONES (Le 100,000,000.00) immediately or SERVE TEN (10) YEARS IMPRISONMENT after his conviction on TWO (2) counts of corruption offenses.
The Honourable Judge also ordered MOHAMED SHEKU TURAY to pay a restitution of THREE BILLION, NINE HUNDRED AND TWENTY MILLION, ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY-FIVE THOUSAND, TWO HUNDRED AND SIXTY-TWO (OLD) LEONES (LE 3,920,145,262.00) on or before the 30th of September, 2021, being funds he misappropriated from the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA).
While MOHAMED SHEKU TURAY had paid the court fine, the Commission’s efforts to get him to pay the restitution as ordered by the Honourable Judge had proved futile. He later fled the country.
The ACC subsequently applied to the High Court for an order to sell his property, situated at 4A Jones Street, Kissy, Freetown, which is described by the valuators as “a four-story residential and commercial building…situated on 0.0602 acres or 0.7 town lots.”
The Commission hereby further informs the general public that the property is being offered for sale. Interested parties should submit purchase proposals/bids to the Commission’s Procurement Unit by the 31st of January, 2025. The property is, meanwhile, available for viewing and inspection by any interested parties.
