The Eastern Technical University of Sierra Leone (ETUSL) is witnessing a wave of excitement as staff and students express their satisfaction with the recent implementation of the university’s real salary scale, a situation that has put smiling faces on both lecturers and students within and out of the university campus.
This long-awaited adjustment has improved the livelihoods of academic and non-academic staff and is also seen as a major boost for the institution’s commitment to the President’s agenda, as the University has been radically included….
For years, Eastern Technical University staff have faced salary disparities and financial challenges that impacted morale and performance.
However, with the intervention of Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh under the radical inclusion and with the president’s agenda to align salaries with a fair and transparent pay scale, lecturers, administrators, and support staff are now enjoying better remuneration and job security. This, in turn, will enhance the quality of education and create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment for students.
“This salary restructuring is not just about financial stability; it’s about fairness. When educators are well-compensated, they are more motivated to teach, innovate, and support students from all backgrounds,” said a senior lecturer at the Business and Entrepreneurship department.
Students have also welcomed the changes, noting that improved staff welfare translates to better teaching quality, enhanced mentorship, and a more inclusive campus culture.
With financial stability, educators are now able to focus more on developing programs that support marginalized groups, including students from low-income families, those with disabilities, and young women facing educational barriers. The okada rides, market women, drivers’ union, and the entire township of Kenema City are in a jubilant mood for this developing story on the Sengeh alert.
“A university thrives when its staff is happy and well-supported. This new salary scale ensures that our lecturers can focus on delivering quality education instead of struggling with financial insecurity,” said Fatmata Sesay, a third-year student at the university.
Mr. John Juana, Registrar of ETUSL, emphasized that financial justice within the institution improves the university’s potential for quality delivery. “When our employees feel respected, they work more successfully to reform the education system. “This is a victory for fairness, educational equity, and humanity,” he declared.
He also thanked the President, HE Dr. Julius Maada Bio, for surrounding him with individuals who can deliver and care about other people’s welfare. The Sengeh Alert is moving across every corner of the district.
