Hawanatu Kamara, a woman from Mathoir Town in the Yoni Mamaila Chiefdom, Tonkolili District, North-east Region, was committed to the High Court on Monday, 10th November 2025, after evidence implicated her in the offence of possession of prohibited drugs without lawful authority, contrary to Section 8(a) of the National Drugs Control Act of 2008.
According to the particulars of the offence, on Thursday, 6th November 2025, Kamara was found in possession of eighty-three (83) wraps of opium (kush), a prohibited drug for which she had no lawful authority.
In presenting their case, the prosecution tendered the following exhibits:
Exhibits A1-A3, written report of the arresting officer DCPL 12149 Sesay M.
Exhibit B1-B2, a written report of another arresting officer, Detective Sergeant 4676 Koroma F.T., who stated that when the team from Mile 91 Police Station raided Mathoir Town, Kamara was found and searched, and 83 wraps of kush were discovered in a plastic bag hidden in her pants.
Exhibit C1-C5, the voluntary caution statement of Kamara, in which she admitted to the allegation and told the police the substance was given to her by her husband to hold for him.
Exhibit D1-D2, the charge statement of Kamara.
Exhibit E, the search warrant of Kamara.
Exhibit F1-F83: the 83 wraps of kush found in Kamara’s possession.
Magistrate Harold Kamara stated, “The prosecution is charged with the burden of adducing sufficient evidence establishing a prima facie case to be answered by the defendant.”
Magistrate Kamara noted that he was only looking for sufficient evidence establishing a prima facie case to be answered by Kamara.
Magistrate Kamara ruled, “Having regard to the evidence so far adduced, I hereby rule that the prosecution has adduced sufficient evidence that has raised more than a prima facie case to be answered by the defendant on trial.”
He added, “She’s therefore committed to the High Court for trial, and she’s to be remanded in custody at the Moyamba Correctional Centre unless the High Court grants bail.”
