Police Headquarters, George Street Freetown, Wednesday 5 October 2022 – The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. William Fayia Sellu, in an engagement with a cross-section of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) National Executives has assured of his fullest support to the association.

Responding to the concern raised over the safety of Journalists in performing their duties to the SLAJ executives, IGP Sellu stated that he has a long-standing experience working with the fourth estate and has benefited a lot from them, especially while he was serving as the Chief Security to late President Kabba.

Police and Journalists he said are working towards a common goal which is public safety and therefore should not be seen drawing daggers.

The administration he said would create an atmosphere where both institutions will work side by side in the interest of the public.

He recalled initiating a day workshop where members of both institutions will explain their jobs description for a better understanding to avoid clashes, especially during the electioneering period.

He also assured of not deviating from the SLAJ MOU with the security sector on the safety of Journalists, signed by his predecessor.

He, therefore, appreciated the visit of the SLAJ executives and asked that they always count on him for support.

President of SLAJ, Ahmed Sahid Nasralla earlier informed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) that their visit was to discuss pertinent issues bordering on the relationship with the SLP, the safety of Journalists, and potential training for Journalists on security reportage, especially for the 2023 elections.

The Executive includes Ahmed Sahid Nasralla, President, Sahr James Bangah, Vice President, Umu H Bakarr, Public Affairs Secretary, Alhaji Manika Kamara, Secretary General, Mohamed Konneh financial secretary, and Fatmata Dainke Katta.
