The youth coordinator of the Bombali District Football Association (BDFA) Abass Jalloh has called on corporate institutions operating in the district to support grassroots football tournaments.
Jalloh made this call following the commencement of the Under-12 district qualifiers on Tuesday, November 15th 2022 at the Wusum field in Makeni with eight teams battling for one spot to progress in the regional qualifiers.
He added that BDFA is the first-ever association across Sierra Leone to kick-start the Under-12 qualifiers noting “this shows our commitment to catching them when they are young, and developing their potential, we have previously climaxed competitions for the Under-14 and Under- 15 category” Coordinator Jalloh asserted.
Abass Jalloh concluded that four of the players that participated in the Bombali District Under-15 competition were part of the Sierra Leone national Under-15 team that played in the recently concluded WAFU U-15 competition held in Guinea and others earned a call-up in the national Under-17 “we have made remarkable strides in youth football, but our major challenge is lack of support from the corporate institutions as compared to other regions and district football associations, therefore we call on these institutions to sponsor our grassroots tournament as we have more on the pipeline” he ascribed.
