The newly formed Lebanese Union on Saturday donated food condiments such as bags of rice; onions; gallons of oil; clothes; toys, and other valuable items to Ebola orphans at the St. Mary’s Fatima Interim Care Center at No.2 in Freetown ahead of the Easter Holiday.
Speaking during the delivery of the donation, the President of the Lebanese Union in Sierra Leone (LUSL), Abass Khazem expressed his condolences to the children who lost their parents during the Ebola outbreak which claimed the lives of thousands in the country between 2014 and 2015.
As a result, Mr Khazem emphasized the importance of supporting vulnerable children by ensuring that they have access to basic social necessities and opportunities to celebrate special religious occasions like Easter.
This gesture came in the wake of a concern raised by one of the Unionβs members about the plight of those children and the need to help them.
For his part, the Vice President of the LUSL, Osama Zayat highlighted the importance of enhancing the physical and emotional wellbeing of those children, especially during popular holidays in the absence of their parents.
The Secretary-General of the Union, Ali Shaiky, and the Head of Compliance, Mohamed Ayoub, during the delivery of the donation, emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in their philanthropic efforts, saying the donation was made in accordance with the Union’s policies and procedures to ensure that it reaches and benefits the intended beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations representative of the Union, Ali Jafar emphasized the Union’s commitment to its corporate social responsibility and corporate philanthropy by giving back to local communities.
Mr Jafar made it clear that the donation was made with genuine compassion and a desire to bring joy to those orphaned children during this Easter holiday.
In response to the gesture, the children at St. Mary’s Fatima Interim Care Center expressed gratitude to the Lebanese Union in Sierra Leone for their kind support in what they described as a special time of the year.
