The newly elected Member of Parliament for Cluster 3 Bo district, formerly constituency 080, has vowed to prioritize women’s development in her locality.

Madam Beatrice Maaya Kangbai Macavory made this pronouncement at Bemkay’s Entertainment Spot, Tikonko town, Bo district, in an event that marked the official Thanksgiving ceremony for her election as Member of Parliament in Bo district under the ticket of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) in the June 2023 multi-tier elections.

The SLPP lawmaker said that she intends to go into mainstream politics in her bid to transform the lives of women in Bo district and beyond, adding that she has a vision for women’s development.

“Year back, I noticed that when girls and boys undertake co-education, that’s when they sit and school together in the same school, the boys often distract the teenage girls with sexual and romantic advances there by impregnating the ladies. In my response to the prevalence of this ugly situation in our community, I built a junior secondary school exclusively for girls in Tikonko town in a bid to prevent the male pupils from distracting the teenage girls,” she explained.

Adding to that, the school has produced multiple students who are offering distinct courses across tertiary institutions in the country.

Speaking on her intent of organizing the Thanksgiving ceremony, the lawmaker said that the event was geared towards extending her deepest gratification to God and the people of Tikonko chiefdom and environs for making her one of the lawmakers in Bo district.

“I want to extend my appreciation to President Julius Maada Bio, supporters and party executives of SLPP Bo district, delegates and residents of Cluster 3, and other well-wishers for the confidence they unanimously reposed in my personality to represent them as Members of Parliament Bo district.”

Resident Minister South, Mohamed E. Alie, who doubles as the Chairman for SLPP Bo district, said that the Thanksgiving ceremony showcased a testament to the Honorable Beatrice Kangbai Macavory’s appreciation and commitment to the SLPP and the people of Bo district. He called on other lawmakers to emulate the Thanksgiving strides undertaken by the lawmaker.

“Hon. Kangbai is one of the few MPs who deemed it fit to thank the SLPP party and the people who voted for her party so that she became a parliamentarian,” he said.

“Some politicians only come to the grassroots when they want to assume political office. The lack of courtesy in extending appreciation to the people who voted for them to become what they are in society, “he lambasted. Meanwhile, Hon. Beatrice Maaya Kangbai Macavory, who is the wife of the former Paramount Chief Member of Parliament (PCMP) Bo district, Professor Joe Kangbai Macavory (IV) of Tikonko chiefdom, has become the first wife of a PC to become an MP in Sierra Leone
