POEM: THE TEARS OF AN ABORTED CHILD: WHERE IS MY CRIME?

Dear President, dear Cabinet, hear my cry,

This is not just a poem—it’s a cry, sincere.

I speak not as a voice of anger or strife,

But as a soul denied the gift of life, whose life couldn’t begin.

I speak from the heavens where little souls lie.

Mommy, I felt you the moment I was conceived.

A miracle unfolding, yet you never believed.

I was your child, nestled in your womb,

But my home became my silent tomb.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Minister, I ask: Where is my crime?

What did I do to be denied my time?

I had a heartbeat, fingers, and toes—

A future full of dreams, but now nobody knows.

Mommy, I would have made you proud.

Your little star shining through every cloud.

I would have held your hand, wiped your tears,

Been your companion through life’s many years.

But I never got the chance to see the sky,

To feel the sun, to laugh, to cry.

My voice was silenced before it could sing,

My life stolen, a most precious thing.

Mr. President, dear Government, pause and see,

The weight of this law and its tragedy.

This bill called “Safe Motherhood” wears a disguise.

But it’s a cloak for death, where innocence dies.

Safe for who, I ask, as I lie here in grace?

Safe for the mother but not for my face?

What of the children who’ll never be born,

Lives cut short, their futures torn?

How can you call it safety when it’s my demise?

How can you ignore the tears in my eyes?

I had a name, though you’ll never know,

A destiny written, a path to grow.

Imagine the future you’re throwing away,

Doctors, scientists, politicians, lawyers, teachers, and leaders of a brighter day.

Imagine the art, the songs, the light,

All extinguished in the dead of night.

How many dreams will you let die?

How many tears will heaven cry?

Reject this bill; let it fall away.

And give us the chance to see light one day.

Dear lawmakers, CSOs, religious leaders, and citizens, this is not about choice.

It’s about hearing the voiceless voice.

You hold the power to stop the pain,

To give the unborn their chance to reign.

Mommy, if you could only see,

The little girl I was meant to be.

With curls in my hair and laughter so sweet,

A child who would’ve made your life complete.

But now I’m gone, my cries unheard,

My life was erased with a single word.

Abortion.

A word that ends dreams before they start,

A word that tears a beating heart apart.

Mr. Speaker, dear Parliament, take my tears,

Let them wash away your doubts and fears.

Let them remind you of the sacred gift,

That every life is a blessing to uplift.

So I cry from heaven for the unborn still,

For the children who’ll die if you pass this bill.

Their tears join mine, a river of sorrow,

Begging for the chance to see tomorrow.

Choose life, dear leaders; it’s not too late.

Rewrite the law before sealing their fate.

Let my tears touch your heart, make you rethink,

Before another innocent is pushed to the brink.

Thank you.
