The United Methodist Church Primary School, located in Tombodu Town, Kamaa Chiefdom, Kono District, has emerged as this year’s winner of Lek U Culture Association’s maiden inter-school cultural competition in Kono.
The competition, which was held on January 1st, 2025, at Empire Pool in Sofedu, Kwayor, Kono District, saw over seven (7) schools, both primary and secondary, competing to be the champion of this year’s cultural competition.
Among the competing schools were Koidu Secondary School, Islamic Secondary School, Unique International School, Experimental Senior Secondary School, and United Methodist Church Primary School; all of whom who were very determined to win as shown by the breathtaking performance of the different dancers and singers representing the competing schools.
The prize/award ceremony took place in Tombodu Town, Kamaa Chiefdom, at the United Methodist Church Primary School- the winning school, and it featured statements from the headmaster of of the school; the founder and CEO Lek U Culture Association, and the chairpersons of Lek U Culture Association Kono and USA chapters.
Addressing the pupils and others present via telephone, the Chairman and Founder Lek U Culture Association, Alhasan Fofana Bangura, thanked United Methodist Primary School on their well deserved victory, and pledged his unwavering support and commitment to ensuring continuity of the annual Inter-School Cultural competition, describing it as one of many events in the district, and Sierra Leone at large, that has the potency to contribute immensely in preserving and showcasing our beautiful and diverse culture.
Madam Alima Sangarie and Christine Pitiquoi, chairpersons Lek U Culture Association USA, and Kono chapters respectively, among other things, also congratulated the pupils, expressing admiration for the harmony of their dance and the aesthetics of their costumes. They encouraged the pupils to be hardworking in school while they engaged in sports, cultural dance, and music.
The headmaster of United Methodist Church Primary School, Mr. Moripeh, thanked Lek U Culture Association for organizing a cultural competition for schools in Kono, describing it as a step in the right direction. He called on the leadership of Lek U Culture Association to assist his school with different cultural items, including drums and cultural costumes.
Finally, on behalf of the school and colleague pupils, Tamba Brima, who led the cultural group to this year’s inter-school cultural competition, thanked Lek U Culture Association for organizing the cultural competition and thanked their teachers and his colleagues who represented the school for their great performance at the competition, leading to their win. He assured of his school’s victory in the next inter-school cultural competition.
