Amidst the giant unemployment in the country, there are reports of massive resignations at the Bank of Sierra Leone, the nation’s central bank.
In less than six months or so ago, a total of seven bankers ranging from senior manager to managers, assistant manager, and banking officers have resigned their various positions at the Bank of Sierra Leone.
The names of the former central bank workers who have resigned their various positions at the Bank of Sierra Leone includes Mrs. Alberta Sesay banking officer resigned in August, Mariama Gbuja Bundunka-Heimoh banking officer resigned August, Dr Abu Bakarr K S K Daoh Manager resigned September now with Ecobank in a senior managerial position, Osman David Kamara manager resigned September also working now with Ecobank in a higher cadre, Alhaji U Jalloh also resigned September as a former senior manager, an assistant former manager whose name was not known up to the time of going to press resigned October is now employed with an International NGO and Abdul Salami a former senior banking officer resigned in October.
No immediate reason or reasons have been proffered for their resignations. But a former central bank official who spoke to this medium on anonymity says it may not be unconnected with the low salary scale of staff at the bank compared to other commercial banks and international NGOs.
According to the former central bank official, the salary scale of staff at the central bank compared to other central banks within the sub-region is the least paid.
The former central bank official went further to say that the low salary scale of staff at the Bank of Sierra Leone is an inherited problem. But that if the current executive fails to review and implement a staff salary scale, more good banking officials will depart the Bank of Sierra Leone.
A spokesman for the Bank of Sierra Leone confirmed the resignations at the central bank but said that the number he was aware of was two, not seven.
