Sierra Leone’s Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernoh Bah, has represented President Julius Maada Bio at the International Conference on Information Integrity and Independent Media in Paris.
The event, co-hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron, former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama, and the International Fund for Public Interest Media, brought together world leaders to discuss ways to protect independent journalism and fight misinformation.
Minister Bah shared Sierra Leone’s progress under President Bio’s Information Freedom Agenda, highlighting reforms such as the repeal of criminal libel laws, the National Information Policy, the National Fund for Public Interest Media, and stronger data protection and access to information measures.
“These are not just policies,” he said. “They are proof of our belief that democracy thrives when citizens have access to free, factual, and trustworthy information.”
Accompanied by Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to France, Mohamed Kanja Sesay, Minister Bah reaffirmed the country’s commitment to media freedom and open governance as Sierra Leone continues to lead in information integrity across Africa.
