The Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, has been honoured as Minister of the Year 2025 by the Marampa Legendary Awards, in recognition of his leadership and national impact.

The award ceremony, held on Friday evening in Lunsar, Port Loko District, brought together a diverse gathering of stakeholders from across the region, including academics, medical professionals, political leaders, and philanthropists.

Receiving the award, Minister Bah expressed gratitude for the recognition, noting its significance as a community-led initiative outside the capital.

“This recognition shows that the impact of our work is being felt across the country,” he said. “What makes this award especially meaningful is that it comes from young people who are leading change in their communities and who have acknowledged the contribution we have made to their efforts.”

In his address, Minister Bah encouraged young people to embrace unity and to take a firm stand against drug abuse.

“As a government, we are proud of the work young people are doing to promote peace,” he said. “Despite our differences, Sierra Leone must always come first. Reject violence, and stay away from drugs.”

He also used the occasion to announce plans for the country’s first-ever National Remembrance Day, declared by President Julius Maada Bio.

“January 18 will be observed as National Remembrance Day,” Minister Bah announced. “The commemoration will run from January 14 to January 21 and will include a nationwide two-minute moment of silence, the use of white ribbons as a symbol of remembrance, and the establishment of Remembrance Walls in communities.”
