13 April 2026, the Ministry of Information and Civic Education hosted a spirited Quiz and Debate Competition at the district Council Hall, a key segment in the ongoing Civic Day Series. This youth engagement segment is specifically designed to test the civic knowledge of secondary school pupils while celebrating the great minds of the next generation. Five schools within Kamakwie township; Christ Solutions Academy, Wegdam High School, Magbonkoni Community School, St. Peter’s Agriculture Secondary School, and the Sierra Leone Muslim Brotherhood Secondary School, gathered to demonstrate their academic prowess.
The Quiz Competition was marked by an unprecedented level of intensity, requiring three solid rounds and an additional tie-breaker round to determine the champions. Ultimately, Zainab O.A. Kamara of St. Peter’s Agriculture Secondary School secured the first-place position with 31 points, Billal Timbo of the Sierra Leone Muslim Brotherhood Secondary School took second place with 28 points.
The Debate Competition featured four participating schools,Participants debated topics of civic importance such as Free Quality Education, Feed Salone and Census. After two rigorous debate rounds, Samura Momoh A. of St. Peter’s Agriculture Secondary School claimed the top spot with 15 points, while Abdulai Sillah of the Sierra Leone Muslim Brotherhood and Sarah Sankoh of Wegdam High School took second and third positions respectively.
In recognition of their outstanding performances, the winners were awarded prizes. Zainab O.A. Kamara and Samura Momoh A. each received cash prizes of NLe 2,000, along with Certificates of Participation and census jackets and caps. The second and third-place winners received NLe 1,500 and NLe 1,000 respectively, alongside certificates.
