Old Edwardians and Star Sport Academy played out a 1-1 draw in the Leone Rock Premier League, with James Jusu Kanja’s touching tribute stealing the headlines.
The home side took a crucial advantage into the break when their prolific striker, James Jusu Kanja, demonstrated his composure from 12 yards, calmly slotting home a penalty just before the half-time whistle.
The goal, which came at a pivotal moment in the match, gave Old Edwardians a deserved lead after a dominant first-half display.
Star Sport Academy showed their resilience after the restart, finding an equaliser in the 55th minute through Osman Kamara, who capitalised on a defensive lapse to level the proceedings.
The most poignant moment of the match came after Jusu’s goal, as the league’s leading marksman dedicated his strike to his late father and former teammate, Abrahamson Kaccu Kamara, in an emotional tribute that touched players and spectators alike.
With this goal, Jusu further cemented his position atop the scoring charts with an impressive tally of 12 goals from 28 appearances in the ongoing Leone Rock Premier League campaign.
The draw leaves both teams sharing the points in what was ultimately a fair result in an evenly contested match that will be remembered more for its emotional significance than the final scoreline.
