Sierra Leone Taekwondo Association has on 23rd September 2022 paid a visit to the Sierra Leone National Olympic Committee at Howe Street in Freetown.

The visit to the National Olympic Committee was to present the newly elected Executive of the Sierra Leone Taekwondo Association.

Speaking on behalf of the Association, Mohamed Barrie, National Secretary General of Sierra Leone Taekwondo Association, expressed his gratitude to the Executive of the National Olympic Committee for their relentless efforts during the Elective Congress 25th June 2022 and formally introduced the newly elected executive of SLTA to the committee.

“I will start this Presentation with our national President Oness Abayomi Johnson, and he is assisted by Mrs. Janet Bockarie Alie, as the Vice President for the Association. And for the Association to get gender balance it also brought another female in the person of Madam Patricia Wesley who is the Treasurer of the Association in charge of the finances of the Association,” he said.

“For the Association’s activities to reach the Public, it has two gentle men in the persons of Jaffa Mans-Davies, the Public Relations Officer (1) alongside Mohamed Abu Conteh, the Public Relations Officer (2) as both of them are members of the fourth estate. The two are charged with the responsibility to publicize the activities of Taekwondo Association in and outside the country.

“The association has also brought in Umaru Bundu as the Assistant Secretary General of the Association, Ibrahim Yansaneh as Organizing Secretary, and Chrispine Ekundayo George, to be the ex officio. Note that this nine-man Executive is in charge to man the affairs of the Association for the next four years.”

He concluded that the Association has over the years made many strides to promote the Taekwando sport in the Country, but stressed that it has been getting little or no support from government to represent Sierra Leone which has made it difficult for the association.

Dr. Patrick Coker, the President of Committee, in his response, said:

“I am  pleased that the Sierra Leone Taekwondo Association have gone through it elections and it now have an Executive and seeing the full executive this afternoon shows it  has decided to work together as a team meaning it’s not only about one man show, but a team work that will help the Sport to develop in the Country.”

He called on the Executive to work as a team for the development of the sport in the Country, and with that they can achieve their aims and objectives in making Taekwondo become an enviable sport in Sierra Leone.

The Secretary General of the Association at the end of the meeting disclosed that they have similarly planned to visit the National Sports Authority in the coming days.
