Electoral Commission-Sierra Leone, listening to cries and calls of civil societies, political parties, media and the general public for the extension of voter registration due to the challenges encountered during the first phase which impeded persons to register, has finally decided to extend voter registration for two days.
The two days extension is scheduled to hold from the 7th to the 8th of October for only 1,815 centers that were opened during the first phase of the registration process. This decision is mandated by Section 169 of the Public Elections Act, 2022.
This decision was made public in a press release, published on the 3rd of October 2022.
The one-month voter registration will end today, Tuesday 4th October 2022. It could be recalled that the Commission held a press conference on 7th September 2022 about the ongoing voter registration and therein highlighted some challenges that affected the registration commencement in some parts of the country. Apt measures, according to ECSL were taken without essential determent to the process.
On that note, the Commission appreciates Sierra Leoneans for being peaceful in participating in the process and therefore encourages those who have not registered to see the extension as an opportunity to register as it is their civic right to do so.
