In line with its commitment to support education and skills development for young Sierra Leoneans, the Management of Sierra Rutile Limited (SRL) has enrolled twenty-three students from various universities and technical institutes on the Sierra Rutile Internship Programme.

Beneficiaries of the programme are from Fourah Bay College, Njala University and SRL’s funded technical institute, the Jackson and Devon Anderson Technical Institute (JADA).  The yearly Internship Programme offers various opportunities in the fields of mining engineering, geology, finance and management and information technology.

During a briefing session with the interns, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SRL, Theuns Debruyn, congratulated them for having been selected for the programme. He encouraged them to take advantage of the educational opportunity provided to them by SRL. The CEO further urged the students to take advantage of their internship placement with SRL, noting “this is the best opportunity for them to develop their skills and further their education”, He added that SRL is very pleased to offer internship opportunities to young and talented Sierra Leoneans as part of the company’s commitment to the development of Sierra Leone’s Human Capital Development.

SRL’s Chief Engineer, Andre Collyer said that students pursuing mining related courses should seize the opportunity to have first-hand experience in their respective disciplines and improve their technical skills. . He encouraged the interns to be motivated and use the internship scheme to further their career aspirations.

SRL’s Training and Organizational Development Superintendent, Dauda Kawa, said that the internship programme was designed to bring together highly motivated students with the requisite skills to complement their theoretical knowledge with practical experience by providing them with short-term supervised work experience. He also said that the main goal was to give students the opportunity to improve their skills in areas related to their specific field of study. He added that the internship programme, alongside SRL’s Graduate Trainee Scheme, forms part of the company’s desire to attract and develop a future talent pool for nationals.
