Reading the judgment on Monday 24th October 2022, Magistrate Isata Sellu Tucker of Court No 2 Pademba Road, Freetown, has slammed a 2 year sentence to three persons that were protesting and thus arrested by the Police along Sani Abacha Street, in Freetown.
The three convicts, Ibrahim Kargbo, Mariatu Kamara and Fatmata Samura were charged with unlawful procession, riotous conduct and insulting conduct, all contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone. According to the charge sheet on count of unlawful procession, all three convicts on the 10th of August 2022, were found along Abacha Street, Freetown processing without lawful authority, and were also found holding placards written ‘Maada must go’ and raining abuse on the President.
Magistrate Tucker said three witnesses testified and they corroborated each other. Looking into the case and the law, the Prosecution team lead by Inspector Tejan Bangura proved their case, and therefore she found all three accused guilty of the offences charge therein.
On that note, all accused are sentenced to 24 months each concurrently and to pay a fine of five million Leones. The defense counsel of the accused was absent.
