Sierra Diamonds Limited pays surface rent to Landowners in Lower Bambara, Kenema

A mining company operating in Lower Bambara chiefdom Kenema district has paid 2023 surface rent to land owing families in accordance with Part 7 of the Mines and Development Act of 2022 to the tune of one million two hundred and seventy-eight thousand Leones (Le1,278,000) approximately, old money one billion two hundred and seventy-eight million Leones (Le1,278,000, 000).

The move is a way of adhering to the corporate social responsibility of the company.

The said money was paid in three segments: 70% of the money was paid to the land-owing families, 10% to the Paramount Chief, 10% to the Kenema District Council, and 10% to the Member of Parliament in the Chiefdom.

The ceremony took place at Panguma Court Bari, where hundreds of landowners and other stakeholders in the country were in attendance.

He called on his subjects to be law-abiding at all times and to always address any of their grievances through the appropriate channel by maintaining total peace at all times.

He thanked the management of Sierra Diamonds Limited for their corporate social responsibility in the chiefdom and the district.

He appealed to his people for the judicious use of the money there by ensuring that no one is left behind in the sharing of the money, which he said has come at the right time of the season.
