Direct Aid-Kenema has ended its Ramadan support to Muslims and community members in the East and Southern Regions.

The distribution of food packages, which includes items like 25 kg of rice, 10 sardines, tomatoes, sugar, Maggi, and five litres of vegetable oil, among others, went on at the start and end of the Ramadan period between February and March 2026 at the Zaid Bin Haritha Centre at the Nyandeyama section in Kenema city.

Speaking to the press at the distribution centre, the Director of Direct Aid-Kenema, Seid Mohamed Ali, disclosed that the continuous humanitarian exercises of Direct Aid are ongoing on a yearly basis with continued funding support from Kuwait, founded by the late Abdul Rahman Al Sumait, founder of the organisation Direct Aid, operating not only in Sierra Leone but also in more than 30 African countries, including Sierra Leone.

The intervention of Direct Aid is not only limited to food but also goes across in the areas of health, medication, infrastructure, microloans and the establishment of radio stations to continue servicing the nations.

He pointed out that some of the beneficiaries across always include the physically challenged persons, missionaries, the aged, lactating mothers, Direct Aid staff, neighbourhood communities, among others.

The 2026 support included 12 communities in the South and Eastern regions that benefited from the humanitarian gestures, which include Go 4 Dama, Patama, Sembehun, Lopa Dama and Jaluahun Dama, all in Dama chiefdom; Kpai, Serabu and Blama in Small Bo chiefdom; Hangha, Tissor and Kenema city in Nongowa chiefdom; and Bo, Bawula and Bonthe in the Southern region.

At the beginning of Ramadan 2026, more than 900 beneficiaries received Ramadan Iftar benefit. and more than 200 bags of 25 kg of rice as Zakat Fitir before the Pray Day.

Direct Aid was founded by the late Dr Abdurahaman Al-Sumait, and more than 30 African countries are included in this organisation, and also each of the more than 30 countries has more than 3 or 4 functional centres in their countries.

120 more centres in Africa are going through the same work as is happening now in the Kenema centre, Eastern Sierra Leone.

He thanks the staff and the community for their diverse supports in the ongoing exercises.

One of the physically challenged beneficiaries from the opportunity training centre, Madam Safiatu Kabba, thanked Direct Aid and their funders for their continuous humanitarian support for the nation.

She called on the donors to give more support to Direct Aid so that more vulnerable families benefit from Ramadan.
