An International Non-Governmental Organization Direct Aid Kenema Center Office, in collaboration with the District Health Management Team (DHMT), has ended a free hydrosol/hynia medical surgery for 100 patients in the Eastern Region and beyond.
Mohamed Ahmad, Direct AID Center Manager for East and Southern Regions of the Country, addressing beneficiaries at one of the corridors at the government hospital in Kenema, disclosed that the just concluded medical intervention is one of the numerous social responsibilities of Direct AID, formally known as Africa Muslim Agency in the Country, adding that Direct AID has been providing humanitarian assistance in the areas of health, education, water and sanitation, and infrastructure, among others.
The free surgery, he said, took place at the government hospital along Combema Road in Kenema City.
He assured his audience that the free medical quota will increase on a yearly basis according to how much support will be available.
Emmanuel Tommy, senior surgical community health officer and team lead for the Direct AID surgical camp at the government hospital in Kenema district, confirmed about the 100 patients that have gone through the surgery.
He disclosed that this is not the first time Direct Aid has established a medical camp, saying that a few years ago, over 250 patients benefited from such medical aid. He called for more support on a yearly basis for existing patients.
Tommy expressed his thanks and appreciation to Direct Aid and its donors for their support for Sierra Leoneans, which he said is a way of complementing government efforts in the free medical drive for citizens.
He called for more support in that direction so that more people in the community stand to benefit.
One of the beneficiaries, Foday Amara, from Gbeika town, DODO chiefdom Kenema district, thanks the donors on behalf of his colleague beneficiaries for the support they are receiving in terms of medication. He appealed for more continued support for the citizens of the nation.
