Love One Another Campaign has held a one-day seminar for over five hundred students from various secondary schools and tertiary institutions across Freetown to spread the message of peace, indicating the importance for Sierra Leoneans, especially school going pupils and students of living together and loving one another.
This event, graced by a barrage of personalities, held on Friday the 15 of December 2023 within the confines of Parliament.
The theme of this event is: “A call to love for lasting peace and development in Sierra Leone.
Dr. C.T.H Bell, the Founder and Director of Love One Another Campaign, said that for peace to reign in any country, its citizens need to love one another. Besides, he said that this approach is in conformity with the theme of this event, and the formation of this movement 25 years ago.
Dr Bell further stated that peace among youth is paramount in achieving sustainable peace, which he said the love for one another campaign is a Devine mandate and not an academic exercise, adding that the movement does not refer to a particular group but the general population.
He further said that the only solution to a sustainable peace and development is love. And it does appeal to different sense of reasoning. He added that Sierra Leone will only develop into a prosperous nation when its citizens love one another, referencing Singapore whose citizens have zero tolerance for corruption and exploration.
As this event is all about young people Dr. Bell stated that they selected young people because they believe only young people can transform Sierra Leone from a third world to a first world.
In his statement, Reverend Canon Joseph Bamikole Kanu, the first keynote speaker stated that expectation leads to corruption, but where there is love the negative energy will die out quietly, and said that love is love and is a choice not an option. He concluded by stating that the future of Sierra Leone lies in the hands of the young people and they cannot do much if they lack the necessary education they need.
