By: Josephine Nyeweah in Kenema district

A local non-profit organization, We-Can Development Foundation (WCDF), operating in Kenema district, has donated an end-of-year gift to 200 vulnerable persons, which includes vulnerable women, widows, widowers, children, and physically challenged persons in Kenema city, in a special ceremony held at the Holy Trinity Parish Hall along Blama Road in Kenema.

Addressing beneficiaries, the National Executive Director of the WE-CAN Development Foundation, Foday Zoker, expressed thanks and appreciation to the stakeholders and beneficiaries for honoring their invitation.

He went on to say that WE-CAN DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION WCDF, as a humanitarian organization, deals with children with special needs, widows, the elderly, vulnerable women, and deprived communities through social policy initiatives, advocacy, innovation, and implementation. We shall also be gearing towards education and agricultural activities for sustainable development in the country.

The National Executive Director of WE-CAN DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION further disclosed that the organization was set up by Florence F. Sesay, who currently lives in the USA, as the sole financial director of the organization at the moment, from her own personal coffer.

The move by the Chief Executive Officer CEO as a mother is a payback effort for her country, which she hails from. At the moment, there is no external support for the organization except from her personal coffer, he affirmed.

He called on national, international, and philanthropic organizations and philanthropists to help the less privileged in Sierra Leone through the WCDF on humanitarian grounds.

The National Executive Director further assured his audience that WE – CAN DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION will continue to advocate and partner with government and other NGOs in making sure that they give them the best support they need by giving them a meaningful life style worth living.

With its office at 69 Massaquoi Street in Kenema City, the organization has started extending its support into the district with the aim of helping people in the most difficult-to-reach areas.

He went on to say that the WE-CAN DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION will continue to collaborate with the government and other partners in giving support to the vulnerable by seeing all with a sustainable lifestyle.

Another beneficiary Chief Momoh Gbesay of the Mende Koyagbema section thanked the WCDF for always thinking of them in their activities. He said before that they have been marginalized, discriminated against, and left out, but the WCDF is now changing the narrative.

He offered a special prayer from the Holy Quran for WCDF and the nation for the support they are receiving as vulnerable people.

The Paramount chief representative, Chief Francis Musa Kallon, described WCDF as a positive organization moving in the right direction as one of the organizations operating in the country in line with the government’s five game changers. He appealed to the WCDF to extend its operation to more chiefdoms in the district.

He assured the WCDF of a possible move to acquire more land for future development purposes in the interest of the nation.
