The Sierra Leone Judo Association made a commendable mark in Ghana, where the judo athletes were determined to showcase their prowess on the judo mat. With a mix of male and female competitors, the Sierra Leonean contingent displayed grit in their respective weight categories.
The team, comprising two male athletes and one female athlete, competed fiercely in the 60kg and 66kg individual weight classes for men and the 57kg individual weight class for women. Mohammed Kamara and Momodu Labbie represented Sierra Leone in the men’s categories, while Rashidatu Sesay took to the mat in the 57kg weight class for women.
Despite facing tough opponents, Kamara and Labbie demonstrated skill and resilience, advancing to the quarterfinals before bowing out of the competition. Their journey showcased their dedication to the sport and their determination to represent their nation on the continental stage.
In the women’s division, Rashidatu Sesay exhibited remarkable talent, progressing to the semi-finals in the 57kg weight class. Though she fell short of a spot in the final, Sesay’s performance highlighted her potential and solidified her status as a promising athlete within the Sierra Leonean judo community.
The participation of the Sierra Leone Judo Association in the All African Games not only provided a platform for athletes to test their skills but also underscored the growing prominence of judo within the nation.
