As part of its efforts to have a comparative statistical framework and methodology and to compare and learn from Stats SL statistical best practices, the Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS) has ended a week-long study tour at Stats SL.

During the study tour, the delegation visited Stats SL’s headquarters at 1B King Street, Kona Lodge, Freetown, the regional/district offices in Portloko, and Magbukara, as well as an ongoing consumer price index (CPI) training at Makeni.

The high-powered delegation from LISGIS comprises the Deputy Director General of Statistics and Data Processing, Boima H. M. Sonii; the Head of Country Statistics and Information Offices, Bebee T. S. Wesley; the Director of Information and Coordination, Youngor Amara; the Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist, Kayloe Ruth Frank; the Statistician of National Accounts, Clarence G. Lamie; and the Statistician of Social Statistics, Salome W. Forkpa.

Addressing the delegation, the Statistician General/CEO of Stats SL, Andrew Bob Johnny, emphasized the need for such a tour between national statistical institutions.

He regarded the visit of LISGIS as a novelty, as this is the first time to receive a delegation from a national statistical institution embarking on a study tour at Stats SL.

Mr. Johnny, therefore, thanked and formally welcomed the delegation to Stats SL and paved the way for successful discussions and learning.

Presentations made by divisional heads (directors) of Stats SL provided a comprehensive learning environment for the delegation from LISGIS.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Deputy Director General of Statistics and Data Processing of LISGIS and head of the delegation, Boima H. M. Sonii, expressed delight and gratitude for the warm-hearted reception accorded them by management and staff of Stats SL. Mr. Sonii saw the study tour as a step in the right direction, as they had had a conducive and interactive environment to learn about the various statistical commonalities and differences between Stats SL and LISGIS.

He further noted that, returning home, they would ensure that they utilized the knowledge gained from the tour to improve and implement certain statistical frameworks and methodologies.

The tour was not only an opportunity to understand Stats SL’s robust statistical frameworks and methodology at both national and regional levels but was a platform for social interaction, capacity building, knowledge sharing, networking, and collaboration.
