As he concludes his mission to Sierra Leone to develop a second generation of the National Road Safety Strategy, Road Safety Expert Martin Small, on 15th August, 2024, met with the Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police, Mr. Fayia Sellu, at his office at George Street, and the Deputy Minister of Transport and Aviation, Mr. Rex Bhonapha, at his Youyi Building office in Freetown, respectively.
Mr Small briefed the IGP and the Deputy Minister on his week-long engagement with road safety stakeholders, climaxed by a consultative workshop on Wednesday, 14th August, 2024, at Family Kingdom in Aberdeen.
He informed them that the new strategy would seek to leverage governmental leadership at the ministrial level, with coordination from the Ministry of Transport and Aviation.
In his response, Mr. Sellu thanked the expert, Martin Small, for his commitment to Sierra Leone and road safety. He assured all of the continued support of the Sierra Leone Police to road safety and collaboration with the SLRSA. Part of their mandate is to protect lives and properties, he furthered.
In reply, Mr. Bhonapha assured of the government’s commitment to road safety, adding that road crashes are concerning to the administration of HE President Julius Maada Bio.
In attendance were the Technical Transport Adviser, Dr. Albert Forde, Executive Director, Reverend Smart K Senesie, Company Secretary, Abu-bakarr Sheriff, and Director of Safety and Enforcement, Augustine Kaitongi.
