The University of Management and Technology (UNIMTECH) is delighted to announce that we have been granted permanent university status by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) of Sierra Leone, effective from 1st September 2024. This prestigious accreditation follows the successful re-accreditation process, solidifying our commitment to providing quality education and academic excellence.

Mrs. Dr. Abie Paula Kamara, Pro-Chancellor

This significant achievement is the result of the collective efforts of our past and present academic and administrative staff, whose dedication and hard work have been instrumental in our growth and success.

We would like to particularly acknowledge the invaluable contributions of our Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Rosaline Uyanga, our Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Patrick Taylor and our late Registrar Dr Aly Turay, for their exceptional leadership and commitment to the vision of UNIMTECH.

Prof. Dr. Paul Kamara, Chancellor of UNIMTECH

Our heartfelt gratitude exceptionally goes to our Chancellor, Professor Paul Kamara, and the Pro-Chancellor, Dr Paula Kamara, whose visionary leadership has guided us to this milestone. Their dream, which began in 1991 as a modest computer training centre, has now been realised with UNIMTECH being recognised as a permanent university, offering a wide range of accredited programmes that continue to impact lives and communities positively.

We also wish to express our profound gratitude to Njala University for their invaluable tutelage during our affiliation with them. The guidance and support provided by Njala University played a crucial role in shaping our institution and preparing us for this significant achievement.

In 2021, UNIMTECH became an autonomous university, weaned from Njala University. This permanent accreditation now confirms that we have the authority to establish any undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, provided they individually go through TEC’s accreditation process.

UNIMTECH has strategically located campuses across the country, and we are proud to own all the buildings and properties on these campuses at Kissy Dockyard (main campus) in Freetown, Western Area, in Bo (Southern Region), in Kambia (Northwestern Region), in Kono (Eastern Region), and in Lunsar (Northwestern Region). We are committed to continuing our growth and making quality tertiary education available to disadvantaged populations at an affordable cost. This commitment supports the government’s efforts and upholds our motto: “For Country and For Humanity.”

Furthermore, we extend our deepest thanks to our past and present students, as well as their parents and guardians, who have believed in UNIMTECH from the beginning. Your trust and support have been pivotal in maintaining our standards of excellence and helping us achieve this permanent accreditation status.

The accreditation, which will be subject to annual reviews, covers a diverse range of Bachelor’s Degrees in Public Administration, Social Sciences, Technology, and Applied Sciences, along with Higher National Diplomas and Diplomas in specialised fields. This will enable us to continue our mission of delivering top-tier education and fostering innovation and research that contributes to the development of Sierra Leone and beyond.

We express our deepest appreciation to the Tertiary Education Commission for their confidence in our institution, the Government of Sierra Leone in particular the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education and all education authorities in the country. We are grateful to our students, faculty, staff, and partners for their unwavering support. Together, we will continue to build on this foundation, driving academic excellence and community engagement as we move forward.

Prof. Osman Sankoh, DSc COR (Mallam O.)

Acting Vice-Chancellor & Principal

On behalf of  Management, University of Management and Technology (UNIMTECH)
