The national football team Leone Stars has dropped in the latest FIFA rankings. They have gone down three steps, with Sierra Leone now ranked 125th in the world, according to the recent rankings released by FIFA on September 19, 2024.
The team’s ranking reflects a loss of 14.74 points from July to September this year, which also sees them fall from 34th to 35th place among the 53 CAF nations. The drop in ranking follows the Leone Stars’ current struggle in the ongoing CAF qualifiers, with a winless streak in their last three international matches.
Head coach Amidu Kamara has been under criticism by soccer fans at home and abroad, as the Leone Stars squad is under serious pressure to reverse their fortunes. They are preparing for a critical double-header against Ivory Coast in October as part of the 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
