The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Executive Committee has announced the appointment of Magistrate Mark Ngegba as the new Chairman of the Premier League Board (PLB) for the upcoming 2024/2025 season.
This decision comes after the SLFA Executive Committee rejected the earlier reappointment of Victor Lewis to the same role. In a statement, the Executive Committee clarified that the authority to appoint the Premier League Board, including its chairperson, rests solely with the Executive Committee, as per the SLFA Statutes 2019 (amended).
The appointment of Magistrate Ngegba to this key position is seen as a significant move by the SLFA leadership to provide fresh oversight and direction for the country’s top-tier football league. Ngegba, a respected legal professional, is expected to bring his expertise and impartiality to the management of the Premier League, ensuring the smooth and transparent running of the competition.
The SLFA Executive Committee’s decision to exercise its constitutional powers to appoint the PLB chairperson underscores the association’s commitment to upholding its own statutes and maintaining a high level of governance within the country’s football ecosystem.
As the new Premier League season approaches, football enthusiasts in Sierra Leone will be keen to see how Magistrate Ngegba’s leadership will shape the future of the league and its impact on the development of the sport in the country.
