On October 23, 2024, a delegation from the Student Union Government at Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology met with the Vice Chancellor and Principal to address recent tensions. The student leader expressed regret on behalf of the student body, explaining that their previous communication to the Deputy Vice Chancellor was motivated by concerns for academic security and a lack of awareness regarding issues at the Makeni campus.
The leader clarified that while the students do not oppose the actions taken regarding the misuse of continuous assessments, they are concerned about the timelines associated with these actions.
In response, the Vice Chancellor and Principal reassured the students of his support, expressing disappointment in recent comments from senior stakeholders that suggested bias against the student demographic. He emphasized the need for proactive measures and encouraged students to avoid politicizing academic matters.
The VC&P explained that the purpose of the recent press conference was to inform the public and mitigate misunderstandings, not to escalate tensions. He assured students that necessary actions would be taken to uphold academic standards and promised to engage in further dialogue with the student body soon.
