Freetown, July 27, 2024 The “Say No to Drugs” campaign spearheaded by the legendary Musu Pele Bangura concluded at the Police Field, bringing together veteran female football players and dignitaries to celebrate the success of the initiative.
The closing ceremony was chaired by Asmaa James, the CEO of Rise Radio and former chairperson of the Women’s Premier League for the 2022/2023 season. In her remarks, James commended Musu Pele’s unwavering commitment to the development of football in Sierra Leone and her steadfast stance against drug use among female players.
“Musu Pele’s contributions have significantly impacted the growth of football in our country,” James said. “She has been a true inspiration, and her message of keeping our players drug-free is crucial for their success and the betterment of the sport.”
Addressing the gathering, Musu Pele acknowledged the challenges faced by female footballers in Sierra Leone but stressed that resorting to drugs should never be an option. “Our players must focus on their football careers and strive to become outstanding players on the world stage,” she emphasized. “With dedication and discipline, they can achieve greatness without compromising their health and well-being.”
The event witnessed a strong turnout of veteran female players, who rallied behind Musu Pele’s call to action. They pledged to support the campaign and encourage their peers to abstain from drug use, recognizing the detrimental impact it can have on their athletic performance and personal lives.
