Dr. Samura Kamara’s recent address to the APC-USA Arizona chapter has provided critical insight into his political stance and ongoing commitment to electoral reform in Sierra Leone. Speaking via a video broadcast, the flagbearer/presidential candidate clarified that he is not looking to the 2028 elections. Instead his focus remains, at this time, on advocating for electoral justice and addressing the structural and systemic challenges currently plaguing Sierra Leone’s democratic processes.
Additionally, Dr. Samura Kamara acknowledged widespread speculation about his political ambitions but emphasized that his current priority is fighting for a more transparent and accountable electoral process. This, he says, is essential to ensuring the democratic rights of Sierra Leoneans are upheld.
Sierra Leone’s Democratic Challenges: In his speech, Dr. Kamara painted a somber picture of Sierra Leone’s democratic health. He pointed to the aftermath of the June 2023 elections, which he described as fraught with fraud and irregularities. According to him, the election deprived Sierra Leoneans of their right to choose their leaders freely, undermining the very principles of democracy, including human rights, free and fair elections, and political pluralism.
A marathon fight for Electoral Justice: Dr. Kamara described his pursuit of electoral justice as a “marathon fight,” a long and arduous struggle to correct the injustices of the 2023 elections. He emphasized the difficulty of challenging what he called an “illegitimate regime” but remained optimistic, stating that this fight was not just for himself or his party but for the nation as a whole.
A Call for Unity and Commitment: Commending the leadership of the APC both domestically and in the diaspora, Dr. Kamara acknowledged their efforts in standing firm against the June 2023 election results. He specifically thanked the APC-USA branch for their unwavering support and unity, calling it a crucial element in the broader fight for democratic reform. His address also highlighted the need for collective action, emphasizing that success can only be achieved through a united front.
Addressing Miscommunication: The video message intended for the APC-USA Arizona executive inauguration was not displayed during the event due to time constraints and late logistical arrangements. However, Dr. Kamara assured supporters that the message would be widely shared across media platforms to ensure it reached as many people as possible.
Reaffirming His Mission: Dr Kamara reiterated that his primary focus is not on another election bid but on the ongoing struggle for electoral reform and justice. He remains committed to fighting for a system where every Sierra Leonean’s vote counts and their voices are genuinely reflected in governance.
Dr. Samura Kamara’s address reinforces his dedication to Sierra Leone’s democratic integrity, signaling his intent to prioritize systemic reform over personal political aspirations. This stance not only clarifies his position on future elections but also reaffirms his role as a key advocate for democratic accountability in Sierra Leone.
