Bo Rangers, the three-time champions of the Sierra Leone Premier League and FA Cup winners, have expressed their frustration over the delayed disbursement of their championship prize money. It has been over a month since the conclusion of the 2023/2024 league season, yet the Victor Lewis-led board of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has failed to provide the star prize and runner-up funds to the clubs.
This situation has raised significant concerns about the state of football governance in Sierra Leone. Despite the SLFA receiving substantial sponsorships from Leone Rock Metals Group, the Government of Sierra Leone, and Cooperative House, the association has been unable to fulfill its financial obligations to the clubs in a timely manner.
“It is unacceptable that we have had to wait this long for our hard-earned prize money,” said a Bo Rangers official. We demand that the SLFA fulfill its responsibilities and provide the prize money without further delay.”
The failure to disburse the prize money is a reflection of the broader issues plaguing Sierra Leonean football. Fans and experts alike are calling for a comprehensive review of the SLFA’s governance structure and financial management practices to ensure that the sport is being administered in a transparent and efficient manner.
