20th November 2024
In a continued effort to promote tax compliance and strengthen relationships with taxpayers, the National Revenue Authority (NRA) has on November 20, 2024, hosted a stakeholder engagement with medium taxpayers on Thursday, November 20, 2024. The event brought together representatives from businesses with an annual turnover of one hundred thousand to five million New Leones to discuss compliance challenges and foster open communication between the NRA and the business community.
The session focused on addressing key tax-related topics, including the implications of the 2023 and 2024 Finance Acts, taxpayer concerns, and the role of compliance in supporting national revenue goals.
In her opening remarks, Commissioner General Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura acknowledged the vital contributions of medium taxpayers to the economy and underscored the importance of compliance in achieving sustainable development. She highlighted the NRA’s ongoing reforms aimed at simplifying tax administration and enhancing taxpayer education. “There will be no new taxes in 2025, but we will focus on improving compliance,” she assured participants.
The interactive dialogue allowed taxpayers to raise concerns, share challenges, and suggest improvements to the current tax system. In response, Mrs. Bangura reiterated the NRA’s commitment to collaboration and transparency. “This engagement marks a significant step towards building a culture of cooperation. A strong partnership with medium taxpayers is essential for driving economic growth and improving compliance rates,” she concluded.
This dialogue reflects the NRA’s dedication to creating a more inclusive and supportive tax environment. By fostering open communication, the Authority aims to address challenges and work collaboratively with taxpayers to enhance the nation’s tax landscape for mutual benefit.
