In a groundbreaking announcement, Marampa Mines Limited (MML) has revealed a significant stride towards the sustainable development of the mining sector in Sierra Leone and the well-being of its local communities. The company’s latest achievements include the commissioning of its expansion project, dubbed M3.75, which boasts an impressive production capacity of 3.75 million tonnes per year of high-grade iron ore concentrate.

Under the ownership of Gerald Group, Marampa Mines has undertaken its largest-ever investment to enhance operational scale and solidify its position as a leader in sustainable mining practices. The expansion not only signifies a technological advance but also introduces innovative solutions such as a cyclone deposition system for tailings management, setting new standards in safety and environmental responsibility.

Moreover, the long-term sustainability of Marampa Mines is assured with the ability to process hard rock iron ore, paving the way for over 100 years of continuous operations. This strategic move, coupled with optimized workflows and improved economies of scale, positions Marampa Mines as a resilient player in the market.

In adherence to its mining lease agreement (MLA) and community development agreement (CDA), Marampa Mines will allocate 1% of its revenue towards local development initiatives through the Community Development Fund (CDF). This historic contribution represents the largest single donation from a mining company in Sierra Leone’s history, underscoring Marampa Mines’ steadfast commitment to the welfare of its host communities.

Executive Chairman of Marampa Mines Limited, Craig Dean, expressed his excitement for the official launch of the Community Development Fund and the successful commissioning of the expanded mine. This milestone achievement not only enhances operational capabilities but also reaffirms Marampa Mines’ dedication to creating enduring value for the communities it serves.

Managed by the Community Development Committee (CDC) and the CDC steering committee, comprising representatives from Marampa and Maforki Chiefdoms alongside MML, the Community Development Fund is poised to drive positive change in education, health, economic development, and environmental sustainability within the local communities.

With a focus on operational excellence, environmental stewardship, and community empowerment, Marampa Mines sets a new benchmark in the global mining industry, marking the beginning of a transformative era for its mining operations.
