Kenema, Sierra Leone— In a commendable demonstration of his commitment to media development in Sierra Leone, journalist, SLAJ member, and information attaché to the Russian Federation, Festus J. Lahai, has honored his pledge towards the completion of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) Eastern Regional Secretariat building.
The donation delivered through Hassan Nelson Barrie reinforces the collective efforts of media professionals to enhance journalism infrastructure in the region. His donation of plywood for the ceiling will significantly push the project closer to completion, ensuring a fully functional workspace for journalists in Kenema and the entire Eastern Region.
“The leadership of SLAJ East has done tremendous work. As a member of the Association (SLAJ), I have benefited from many media trainings while serving as a national executive member of both SWASAL and SLRU. I therefore know I have a responsibility to contribute towards the completion of this edifice.”
Victoria Vanday Bernard, Chairperson of SLAJ East, expressed deep appreciation for Festus’ generosity, noting that such contributions play a crucial role in strengthening the media landscape. She encouraged other media professionals to follow his example, emphasizing the importance of collective support in advancing journalism.
Festus J. Lahai’s initiative inspires, demonstrating how individual contributions can create lasting impacts on media development. His commitment sets a precedent for others within the media fraternity and beyond to invest in the growth of journalism in Sierra Leone.
“This support is inspired by and aligns seamlessly with President Bio’s Big Five Game Changers, particularly that which focuses on technology and infrastructure, highlighting our collective commitment to both media and national progress. A resilient media is vital for national development, and I encourage others to contribute in any way they can,” Festus said.
Victoria Bernard emphasized that SLAJ remains committed to fostering a supportive environment for journalists, and with continued contributions like this, the vision of a fully operational regional secretariat is steadily becoming a reality. “Let’s rally together and make media development a shared goal for all,” she said.
