The President of the Union of Students at the College of Human Resource Development (COHRed), located at Black Street Drive, Magbenteh, in the northern city of Makeni, has called on the government, non-governmental organizations, and the public for financial support to address several challenges faced by the Union in completing ongoing projects.
In an interview on February 28, 2025, Ibrahim M. Bangura, the President of the Student Union, stated that while the Union is engaged in a series of development projects, they have been hindered by a lack of financial resources.
“We are currently working on several projects, including office construction, market construction, and providing proper seating accommodations for students,” Bangura said. “However, we are facing numerous challenges, such as a lack of office space and adequate seating, and we are seeking support to address these issues.”
As part of his advocacy on behalf of the students, Bangura also emphasized the need for scholarship assistance for students who are unable to pay their fees. “Many of our students come from impoverished backgrounds, and it is our responsibility as a government to advocate for these vulnerable students,” he affirmed.
In addition, the president highlighted the institution’s lack of sports equipment, particularly football kits, and called on stakeholders for their intervention. “Our government consists of a team of dedicated individuals who are eager to move the institution forward, but our biggest challenge is the limited resources we have,” Bangura explained.
Providing a brief background on the college, Bangura stated that the College of Human Resource Development has had a significant impact on the Makeni community and Sierra Leone since its establishment. As students, he said, the Student Union is working to complement the efforts of the founders and the administration.
Bangura encouraged prospective students to consider COHRed as their choice institution after completing their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
For those interested in supporting the Student Union, Bangura invited them to visit the institution or contact the Union at +232 77 645827. He also mentioned that the college has an account at UBA Bank for any financial contributions.
