Vice President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, has officially launched the NGO Week in commemoration of World NGO Day today, Thursday, 27 February 2025, recognizing the invaluable contributions of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to national development.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Jalloh, who has an extensive background in civil society and international development, including a long stint with the United Nations (UN) and ECOWAS, emphasized the need for NGOs to adapt to evolving global challenges.
“I call on NGOs and development partners in Sierra Leone and across the world to use this day to reflect on how to better position NGOs to be more impactful, particularly in the face of shrinking development aid financing,” he urged.
He stressed the importance of refining strategies and leveraging innovation to ensure interventions are community-driven and sustainable.
VP Juldeh Jalloh also used the occasion to commend NGOs for their tireless efforts in transforming lives, working in close collaboration with the government of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio, development partners, the private sector, and local communities.
He highlighted the critical role of NGOs in bridging gaps in service delivery, particularly in vulnerable communities, and encouraged them to seize new opportunities amid shifting global priorities.
“This was also an opportunity to commend their tireless work and their commitment to improving the lives of millions,” he stated, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with the civil society sector.
