By: Josephine Nyeweah in Kenema District

Amy Miatta Myers Benya is the new female Paramount Chief elect for the Small Bo chiefdom in the Kenema district after going through the second round of voting on Monday, 17th March 2025.

The Commissioner Electoral Commissioner for South and Eastern Regions, Sylvanus Edmond Alpha, pronounced the provisional results and was echoed by the Provincial Secretary of the Eastern Region, Bai Masamuta Turay, who pronounced PC Army Myers Benya as the current paramount chief of the Small Bo chiefdom in the Kenema district, having pulled 1,081 valid votes, which is 88.1%, against Alpha Jalloh Bundu, who pulled 146 valid votes, which is 11.9%; both went into the runoff.

Five candidates went in for the position at the initial stage, but after the declaration of the right process, three candidates got right to the box, which includes Amy Miatta Myers and Benya for Benya ruling house.

Alpha Jalloh Bundu Nyangbe for Nyangbe ruling house and Madam Veronica Yeama Ngegba Kougbaka Jombo for Jombo Ruling House.

The Commissioner of the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone, ECSL, Sylvanus Edmond Alpha, in charge of the South and Eastern Regions, and his team conducted the election that ended peacefully with continuous jubilation in the chiefdom.

The newly transferred Regional Commander of the East Sierra Leone Police, Francis Moses Tower, and the Local Unit Commander of the Kenema Division, Chief Superintendent of Police of Sierra Leone Alphanso Fahnbulleh, were on top of security for the process.

The Paramount Chief, PC Amy Miatta Myers Benya, thanks all for their contributions in diverse ways in support of the process.

She described her winning as a winning for the chiefdom and not for an individual, adding no one lost in the contest.

She called on everyone to turn a new page as the election has ended, and everyone should continue preaching unity, peace, and development for the Small Bo chiefdom among the sixteen chiefdoms that make up the Kenema district.

She described herself as a leader for all and therefore extended an olive branch to all who were in the contest for national development.

Cultural performance climaxes the process.
