“If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way.” _MLK Jr..

In a profound demonstration of compassion and solidarity, Ambassador Omrie Golley recently donated rice to disabled people within Kissy Road. This timely intervention arrives as the nation grapples with economic strain, rising food insecurity, and the lingering effects of global crises such as inflation and supply chain disruptions. Ambassador Golley’s contribution transcends mere philanthropy; it embodies a lifeline for families struggling to meet basic needs, reinforcing the power of community-driven support in fostering resilience.

Ramadan, a time of fasting, prayer, and reflection, emphasizes empathy and charity (Zakat) as pillars of faith. Ambassador Golley’s donation of rice to hundreds of families aligns seamlessly with these values, ensuring marginalized groups, particularly those with disabilities, can observe the month with dignity. The rice, a dietary staple, will provide sustenance for iftar and suhoor meals, easing financial strain and allowing recipients to focus on spiritual growth.

Friday, 28th March, 2025, brought some smiles to the faces of about one thousand disabled and underprivileged people, both women and men, in the Kissy Road vicinity of Freetown. The donation targeted one thousand people, each of whom received rice. Aminata Conteh, a mother of two with a physical disability, the rice means her family can share nutritious meals without sacrificing other essentials. ā€œThis support lets us feel the joy of Ramadan,ā€ she shared. Similarly, elderly beneficiaries and caregivers expressed gratitude, highlighting how the gesture alleviates stress and fosters a sense of belonging.

“Charity during Ramadan isn’t just about giving; it’s about uplifting every member of our community,ā€ noted Imam Hassan Bangura, a local cleric. The donation also highlights systemic issues, urging policymakers to prioritize inclusive welfare programs. The donation aimed to provide support to the people when the challenge of providing meals for fasting becomes particularly difficult, especially given the current economic challenges in the country. For disabled individuals, accessing resources is often compounded by societal barriers. Golley’s initiative intentionally targets these overlooked communities, recognizing their heightened vulnerability.

Ambassador Omrie Golley’s rice donation is a microcosm of his leadership philosophy: pragmatic, compassionate, and rooted in the people’s needs. Elevating him as presidential flag bearer would not only honor his legacy of service but also signal a commitment to governance that prioritizes dignity, opportunity, and unity for all Sierra Leoneans. In these uncertain times, the nation needs a leader who transforms empathy into action and vision into reality.

In the spirit of Ramadan, let us all find ways to extend compassion to those in need, ensuring no one is forgotten.* šŸŒ™āœØ
