Award-winning writer and human rights advocate Alpha Amadu Jalloh has once again brought pride to Sierra Leone, earning continental recognition at the just-concluded Scholar Media Africa Conference held in Nairobi, Kenya.

Mr. Jalloh, a passionate voice for youth empowerment and social justice, was presented with the prestigious Africa Renaissance Leadership Award. This accolade recognizes his tireless efforts in exposing societal injustices across Africa and his unwavering commitment to advocating for the rights and welfare of the people of Sierra Leone.

During the conference, Jalloh’s critically acclaimed book, Monopoly of Happiness: Unveiling Sierra Leone’s Social Imbalance, received special mention. The book delves deep into the systemic inequalities that plague Sierra Leone and calls for a collective national awakening to address the long-standing issues of marginalization, corruption, and social divide. His work continues to inspire conversations on the urgent need for an equitable and inclusive Sierra Leone.

In a phone call with our reporter shortly after receiving his award, Mr. Jalloh expressed gratitude for the honor but stressed that there is still much work to be done. Reflecting on Sierra Leone’s 64th Independence Anniversary, he made a passionate appeal to his compatriots:

“On this day, we must mourn and not celebrate. Sierra Leone is yet to be truly free. Until our leaders see themselves first and foremost as Sierra Leoneans, committed to the collective good rather than personal gain, only then shall we be free.”

He further called on all Sierra Leoneans to complement each other’s efforts, support the government in nation-building, and boldly call out wrongdoings whenever they arise.

“We owe it to ourselves and future generations to hold our leaders accountable while working together to build the Sierra Leone we dream of,” he emphasized.

Alpha Amadu Jalloh’s recognition on the continental stage is a powerful reminder that the struggle for justice, equality, and progress must continue and that Sierra Leone’s brightest voices are being heard beyond its borders.
