Freetown, Sierra Leone: Residents of Kissy Shell Community claim Abdul Wahab Senesie, the pastor’s son who fled in 2021 after a homosexuality scandal, has been seen back in the area. The rumour led angry youths to storm his family home, demanding answers.
Family members denied his return, insisting they have had no contact with him since the 2021 incident that left his father beaten by a mob. Local authorities and youths, who had been searching for Abdul since then, say they are monitoring the situation to prevent further unrest.
The incident highlights persistent stigma and community tensions surrounding LGBTQ issues in the region.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by LGBTQ individuals in societies where prejudice and discrimination are still prevalent. As Abdul remains in hiding, fearing for his safety and that of his family, the community is left to grapple with the aftermath of a violent outburst fuelled by misunderstanding and intolerance.
