In a powerful move to combat the growing drug crisis in Sierra Leone, Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis, a distinguished Member of Parliament representing Pujehun District and former Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, has declared an all-out war on Kush-the highly addictive substance destroying the lives of many young people across the country.
Speaking at a well-attended ceremony held today at the Freetown City Council Hall on Wednesday, Hon. Tunis announced a US$50,000 support fund to the Sierra Leone entertainment industry as his personal contribution, both as a lawmaker and private businessman help amplify the national campaign against drug abuse.
The event brought together some of Sierra Leone’s top entertainers and stakeholders, including Entertainment Ambassador Kao Denero, All Stars President Collabo, and other leading artists within the industry. The gathering served as the official launch of a collaborative campaign between policymakers, entertainers, and community leaders to fight against Kush.
In his remarks, Hon. Tunis emphasized that the Kush epidemic is a national emergency that demands collective action.

“The fight against Kush is not a political issue-it’s a national concern,” he said. “Our youth are dying, our communities are breaking, and our future is being destroyed. We must all come together to save our country.”
Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, in her statement, applauded Hon. Tunis for his bold initiative and urged the government to strengthen efforts to identify and dismantle the Kush supply chain. She commended the entertainment industry for joining hands in raising awareness and inspiring change among young people.
The Minister of Youth Affairs also addressed the audience, cautioning young people against drug use and encouraging those battling addiction to seek help. He thanked Hon. Tunis for his exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to the nation’s youth.
The event concluded on a celebratory note, with live performances from several top artists who thrilled the audience with music carrying strong anti-drug messages. The atmosphere was filled with hope and determination as attendees pledged to continue the fight against the Kush menace.
Hon. Sidie Tunis’s $50,000 support fund marks a new chapter in the campaign against drug abuse in Sierra Leone-showcasing how leadership, art, and community action can unite for a greater cause.
