During a courtesy visit to Chinese Ambassador Wang Qing in Freetown, UNFPA Country Representative Kunle Adeniyi praised the strong partnership between UNFPA and the Government of China in Sierra Leone.
Their discussion centred on boosting south-south cooperation and expanding programmes that empower women and girls — including the ongoing initiative for cervical cancer prevention.
The collaboration between UNFPA and China has already delivered strong results in Sierra Leone. In one project supported by China’s South-South cooperation fund, some 50 health-care providers received training in cervical cancer screening and management of pre-cancers. UNFPA and the Chinese Government say they will continue expanding access to sexual and reproductive health services for women and girls in Sierra Leone — reinforcing national efforts to end preventable maternal deaths and reduce the burden of cervical cancer.
