Freetown, Court No. 5, Main Law Courts Building, 14th November 2025: High Court Judge, Honourable Justice Isata Susan Sellu-Tucker, has sentenced Santigie Bangura to fifteen years’ imprisonment, stating that the Judiciary will act tough against the trade in deadly drugs.
The Defendant, Santigie Bangura, a Driver of No. 48 Kamanda Farm was arraigned before the Court on a one-count indictment for the unlawful possession of 30.5 grams of Kush, contrary to Section 8(a) of the National Drugs Control Act No. 10 of 2008.
The particulars of offence state that on the 5th day of June 2024, in Freetown in the Western Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone, the accused was found in possession of 30.5 grams of Kush without lawful authority.
Upon arraignment, the Defendant pleaded guilty at the first instance and appealed for mercy, thereby not wasting the Court’s time.
Addressing the Court, Honourable Justice Isata Susan Sellu-Tucker noted that although the Defendant pleaded guilty, the Court could not ignore the rise in the trade of synthetic drugs, popularly known as Kush. She highlighted that Kush has become a major public health crisis, harming many young people and putting serious pressure on communities and health services.
“I hereby sentence the Defendant, Santigie Bangura, to fifteen years’ imprisonment,” said Honourable Justice Sellu-Tucker, further ordering the destruction of the seized substance by the appropriate authorities.
She cautioned the Defendant Santigie Bangura to refrain from drug use after serving his sentence at the Pademba Road Male Correctional Centre in Freetown.
