Court No. 6, Main Law Courts Building, Freetown, 20th November 2025: High Court Judge, Honourable Justice Mark Ngegba, has sentenced Zainab Donzo for transporting four compressed parcels of cocaine without lawful authority.
The convict, Zainab Donzo, is a Liberian citizen residing in Monrovia and a hairdresser by profession.
She was arraigned on a one-count indictment for unlawful possession of drugs, contrary to Section 8(a) of the National Drugs Control Act 2008, Act No. 10 of 2008.
According to the particulars of offence, on the 13th day of October 2024, at Jendema Town in the Pujehun District, Southern Province of Sierra Leone, Zainab Donzo was found transporting four (4) compressed parcels of cocaine weighing 1.9 kilograms, without lawful authority.
In her allocutus, Zainab Donzo pleaded for mercy.
In his plea in mitigation, C. Okafor Esq. appealed for mercy, stating that the convict is a mother of three and that her youngest child was only three months old at the time of her incarceration.
“We pray for the sentence to be reduced,” Okafor Esq. pleaded with the Court.
“The guilty plea by the convict, together with her allocutus and the mitigation plea, have all been taken into full consideration,” said Honourable Justice Mark Ngegba. He added that the impact of the offence, especially relating to the drug trade, could not be overlooked.
He therefore sentenced Zainab Donzo to 20 years’ imprisonment.
Justice Mark Ngegba also ordered that the cocaine tendered at the Magistrate’s Court be handed over to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency for destruction.
