The Chairman of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) for the Central District, Mr Alhaji Komba, on Sunday 21st December 2025, officially kicked off a RECONCILIATION and UNITY DRIVE aimed at STRENGTHENING party COHESION ahead of the 2028 elections.
Speaking during an interview with the Uncle Sankara Media Platform at the SLPP Unity Hall, the party’s national headquarters in Freetown, Chairman Alhajie Komba noted that the meeting formed part of a broader effort to bring together party structures, executives, and support groups within the Central District to reflect on the party’s progress throughout 2025 and chart a united way forward.
Describing the period as festive and reflective, the Central District Chairman said the gathering was necessary for party faithful to appreciate God for the year’s successes, while also expressing gratitude to President Dr Julius Maada Bio and the SLPP national leadership for sustaining governance and projecting a positive image of Sierra Leone both locally and internationally.
Alhaji Komba emphasised that the reconciliation drive was also meant to acknowledge the sacrifices of party supporters, wherein Chairman Komba shared BAGS of RICE, FINANCIAL TOKENS and support with their families as a sign that their commitment to the party was recognised and valued.
He said such gestures help reinforce trust and confidence in the SLPP and its leadership.
On the role of the Central District in promoting PEACE and UNITY, the chairman said the district had a responsibility to implement party policies and directives from the national leadership.
Chairman Alhaji Komba noted that President Bio and the party leadership had clearly called for reconciliation, unity, and collective responsibility, adding that the meeting itself was part of that mandate, as it brought together current and former district leaders to help bridge internal gaps.
He further stressed that every party member carries equal weight, as each person has one vote, and that leadership positions are simply delegated responsibilities meant to serve the collective interest.
According to Chairman Alhaji Komba, unity within the party is critical to rebuilding confidence among members who may have become discouraged.
Chairman Alhaji Komba expressed optimism that the reconciliation initiative would please the President and the national chairman, adding that the SLPP was already taking concrete steps to rejuvenate its support base and appeal to former members to return as preparations intensify toward the 2028 general elections.
Also addressing the gathering, SLPP National Chairman Mr Jimmy Batilo Songa assured members that the party would commence a comprehensive membership registration exercise next, during which members would be issued identification cards.
He urged zonal executives across the country to hold regular monthly meetings to identify grassroots challenges and channel them through the party structure from ZONES to CONSTITUENCIES, DISTRICTS, REGIONS, and the NATIONAL leadership.
Mr Jimmy Batilo Songa underscored the importance of strong zonal structures, noting that effective organisation at that level would be key to mobilisation, planning, and eventual victory in 2028. SLPP National Chairman Jimmy Batilo Songa encouraged executives to be proactive in their roles, adding that understanding the party’s numerical strength would help the leadership respond effectively when opportunities arise and ensure that communities benefit after electoral success.
