The Adonis Abboud Trust Fund has awarded scholarships to 12 outstanding students from nine universities across Sierra Leone: IPAM, University of Sierra Leone, Njala University, Fourah Bay College, Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology (Magburaka Campus), Milton Margai Technical University (Goderich Campus), College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS), Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology (Makeni Campus), Milton Margai Technical University and College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences.
Each awardee received Le 3,000 and a trophy in recognition of strong academic performance and commitment to education.
Speaking after receiving his award, Abu Bakarr Kpaka from the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), University of Sierra Leone, thanked the board members of the Trust Fund. He said the timing of the award was important and would motivate other students to work harder in their studies.
Esther Gborie, a student of Njala University, also expressed appreciation to the Trust Fund. She said the recognition was the result of her dedication and continuous commitment to her education.
One of the most emotional moments came from Samuel Kamara, a student of Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology (Magburaka Campus), who recorded a GPA of 4.88. An orphan, Kamara said he lost both parents and had to struggle to support himself through school.
He explained that he combined his studies with gold mining to raise money for his education. Kamara thanked Dr Adonis Abboud for starting the initiative, describing it as life-changing for students like him.
The fund was established by Dr Adonis Abboud, who is also Chairman of Transnational SL Ltd and founder of Pikin Bizness.
Addressing the awardees, Dr Abboud congratulated them for their hard work and shared the personal experiences that inspired him to create the Trust Fund. He also sent a message to parents, urging them to keep children off the streets and ensure they are sent to school and properly educated.
